Consequences and Reactions to the Zionist Regime’s Military Attack on Iran’s Diplomatic Mission

2024/04/06 | Note, political, top news

Strategic Council Online: The crime committed by the Zionist regime against the consular section of Iran's embassy in Damascus is a gross violation of international law and creates international responsibility for Tel Aviv. Dr. Ali K. Hoseini - Researcher in International Law

The case of a country’s open military attack on a diplomatic mission is unprecedented in the history of international relations and the way the Zionist regime did it. But there are legal and diplomatic norms to make the regime legally and politically accountable for its terrorist acts, which are listed below:

  • Immediate conviction and investigation
  1. International organizations, including the United Nations, should issue statements condemning this attack and declaring solidarity with the country that is the victim.
  2. A comprehensive investigation should be carried out to determine the perpetrators and their motives behind the attack. The principle of diplomatic immunity should be considered in this process.
  • Pursuing the case through diplomatic channels
  1. The victim party should convey its diplomatic message to its supporters. This message should emphasize the severity of the situation and the need to hold the attacker accountable.
  2. Emergency meetings in regional or international institutions (such as the UN Security Council) should be held to discuss this event and analyze the other party’s possible response in the form of the right of self-defense.

Legal and political reactions

  1. According to international law, the attacking party should be held responsible. Since this attack violates the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, legal measures should be taken in proportion to the attack.
  2. Sanctions or other punitive measures should be applied against the Zionist regime. These measures can include economic, political, or diplomatic measures.

Security and protective measures

  1. The security of diplomatic staff should be prioritized. Enhanced security protocols should be considered and implemented for all diplomatic missions worldwide.
  2. Beefing up the vigilance and cooperation between intelligence agencies can help prevent the repetition of such violations and further illegal action.

Multilateral reaction

  1. The international community should show solidarity with and support for the victim party. Joint statements, diplomatic meetings, or symbolic positions will each carry a powerful message.
  2. Emergency meetings of the UN General Assembly or other relevant institutions can be held to investigate this situation and emphasize diplomatic immunity.

Revival and reconstruction

  1. Urgent efforts should be made to rebuild the diplomatic mission’s building. This will show resilience and commitment to diplomatic engagement.
  2. The victim party can ask other countries or international organizations to facilitate the reconstruction process.

No action by any party can compensate for the innocent lives that were taken in this terrorist operation, and certainly, Iran’s expected response and countermeasure against the Zionist regime will be legitimate. Of course, considering that the Zionist regime, to compensate for its failure in Gaza and divert public opinion, is trying to drag the Islamic Republic of Iran into an unwanted war in the region to prevent its own collapse.

Iran’s decisive and proportionate response should be measured and tactful so that the wishes of the Israeli regime would not be fulfilled. At the same time, it should be kept in mind that an attack on a diplomatic mission is not an attack on a physical structure but an attack on the basic foundations of diplomacy and regional and global peace and stability, which requires a decisive response from the UN Security Council and the international community.

Dr. Kharrazi's response to the new US position on Iran's nuclear program:
It Was America That Abandoned Nuclear Diplomacy/ Iran Also Considers Diplomacy the Best Approach

Strategic Council Online: The President of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations stated: “The US State Department spokesperson, after my interview with Al Jazeera, reiterated their past remarks, stating that they won’t allow Iran to build nuclear weapons, but ultimately said diplomacy is the best approach. Yes, we too prefer diplomacy since based on the Fatwa of our Supreme Leader are not for nuclear weapons; rather, we are advocates of diplomacy to make the Middle East a nuclear-free region. But, in case the Israeli regime threatens us with nuclear weapons, we surely cannot sit idle and wait for permission from others.”

Europe’s Confusion in Securing Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea

Strategic Council Online – Opinion: The strategic Strait of Bab al-Mandab and the Red Sea have recently faced serious problems and crises due to the Gaza war. This is because of the protectionist approach of the Yemeni army forces toward Palestine, which, since the beginning of the Israeli regime’s attacks on the Gaza Strip, has included attacks on ships bound for or from the origin of the regime in the Red Sea.
They said they will continue their attacks until the Israeli regime’s military aggression in the Gaza Strip ends. The United States, as the most important supporter of the Israeli regime, was the first country to respond to this policy of Yemeni army forces and tried to form a global coalition to counter these attacks under the cover of supporting freedom of navigation, which, of course, failed because of conflicts of interests of Western countries and ended in the actions of the US and British attacks on positions in Yemen. Of course, although European countries were not seriously involved in the American coalition, they have numerous and complex interests in this inflammatory, and as a result, have adopted a particular and independent approach.

The prospect of Possible Departure of Hamas Political Office from Qatar

Strategic Council Online – Interview: An expert on regional issues said Qatari authorities will definitely resist Western pressure to expel Hamas leaders from their territory, and probably the United States will not move towards a zero-hundred equation in this regard because if the Hamas leaders remain in Qatar, which is an ally of the United States, is better than moving to a country outside the power of the United States to exert pressure.

Messages and Consequences of Student Protests in the United States

Strategic Council Online – Opinion: Student protests in America take on new dimensions every day.
Because the university enjoys higher public trust and social capital than other civil and social institutions and is, therefore, more effective, the current protests put the U.S. government in a “difficult situation” that is clear in the statements of current and former U.S. officials.
