An Analysis on Efforts by the US and China to Strengthen Mutual Military Capabilities

Strategic Council Online—Interview: An expert on strategic issues said: The US Navy has put a project on the agenda to convert surplus oil platforms into mobile missile defense bases in the Pacific Ocean and face China's threats. These platforms are supposed to be deployed in response to China's growing missile threats in the Pacific region. Platforms converted into missile defense bases are expected to play an important role in increasing US air defense capabilities and assisting in the country's strike missions.

Seyed Reza Mirtaher, in an interview with the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations website regarding the escalation of tensions between China and the United States, said: “The confrontation between the US and China has increased sharply in the last decade, especially after the expansion of tension zones between the two sides during the presidency of Donald Trump. Of course, these tensions have continued during the presidency of Joe Biden, the Democratic president of the United States.”

He added, “The latest action in this field is the US effort regarding the TikTok messaging mission. Within the framework of the law it passed, the US government wants to either buy this messenger to ensure the security of users’ data or filter it. However, the owner of TikTok has announced that he is not willing to sell it, and most likely, TikTok, which has more than 150 million American members, will be filtered in this country.

According to this expert, the confrontation between the United States and China in the military and security field is gaining new dimensions daily. Recently, the US Navy announced that it plans to use surplus or unused oil platforms in the Pacific Ocean to deploy anti-missile or missile defense systems.

Mir Taher believes: “This makes sense considering that  China has made a huge investment in building and deploying various types of ballistic missile systems, air-launched cruise missile systems, land-launched and sea-launched missile systems, and basically an offensive missile system, and now has a huge arsenal in this regard. ”

This expert states that American strategists believe that in any future battle between China and the United States in the Western Pacific, the Chinese will definitely try to use strategic bombers and air-launched cruise missiles or surface-to-surface ballistic missiles that have long-range they will crush the American bases in different places, he noted: “Of course, the Americans will take some countermeasures according to this idea, one of the most important of which is the deployment of various types of missile defense systems in different ways. Most likely, the anti-missile systems the United States will deploy on oil platforms will be piecemeal, and the transportation, launching, and deployment of radar systems will be done using containers. In this way, their transportation will be done quickly, and such an action can play an effective role in defense against possible Chinese missile attacks.”

Mir Taher also explained the Chinese countermeasures: “The Chinese have also formed extensive and significant offensive forces in the last few years. Among them, they are rapidly building several aircraft carriers, and now the third and fourth are under construction. “The Chinese are preparing all kinds of destroyers and frigates for their navy at an unprecedented speed.

The expert continued: “China also plans to unveil its stealth strategic bomber in the very near future, which can be an important step towards increasing China’s air offensive power, especially possible attacks on American soil or American bases in areas far from China.” »

Mir Taher stated that, in general, we have witnessed that during the last two decades, the tensions between Beijing and Washington have not only not decreased but have increased in various dimensions, and regarding the prospect of these tensions, he emphasized: “It is unlikely for us to witness the perspective based on reduction of tensions between the parties  But considering that according to the forecasts, China will become the world’s first economy by 2030 and at the same time they have taken important steps to strengthen their military capabilities, especially in the area of defense, it can be predicted that this issue will eventually lead to the preparation of America and China in the Asia-Pacific region or the Western Pacific Ocean for a possible confrontation in case of emergency.”

Strategic Council Online: The President of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations stated: “The US State Department spokesperson, after my interview with Al Jazeera, reiterated their past remarks, stating that they won’t allow Iran to build nuclear weapons, but ultimately said diplomacy is the best approach. Yes, we too prefer diplomacy since based on the Fatwa of our Supreme Leader are not for nuclear weapons; rather, we are advocates of diplomacy to make the Middle East a nuclear-free region. Europe’s Confusion in Securing Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea

Strategic Council Online – Opinion: The strategic Strait of Bab al-Mandab and the Red Sea have recently faced serious problems and crises due to the Gaza war. This is because of the protectionist approach of the Yemeni army forces toward Palestine, which, since the beginning of the Israeli regime’s attacks on the Gaza Strip, has included attacks on ships bound for or from the origin of the regime in the Red Sea.
They said they will continue their attacks until the Israeli regime’s military aggression in the Gaza Strip ends. The United States, as the most important supporter of the Israeli regime, was the first country to respond to this policy of Yemeni army forces and tried to form a global coalition to counter these attacks under the cover of supporting freedom of navigation, which, of course, failed because of conflicts of interests of Western countries and ended in the actions of the US and British attacks on positions in Yemen. Of course, although European countries were not seriously involved in the American coalition, they have numerous and complex interests in this inflammatory, and as a result, have adopted a particular and independent approach.

Messages and Consequences of Student Protests in the United States

Strategic Council Online – Opinion: Student protests in America take on new dimensions every day.
Because the university enjoys higher public trust and social capital than other civil and social institutions and is, therefore, more effective, the current protests put the U.S. government in a “difficult situation” that is clear in the statements of current and former U.S. officials.
