Consequences of the Crisis in the Israeli Army

Strategic Council Online - Opinion: In recent weeks, the Zionist regime has faced a “big and new crisis” within the military and security institutions, which is unprecedented and, according to some Zionist officials, “terrible.” Hamid Khoshayand - Expert on regional affairs

Protests against Netanyahu’s cabinet have spread rapidly and violently into the military and security institutions. Every day, more officers and reservists “refuse” to serve in the army and other military and security institutions. In an unprecedented move, Netanyahu’s recent trip to Britain was delayed due to the disobedience of the pilot of his plane!

A new group of army reserve officers and soldiers from the engineering corps of the “Yahalom” unit, who specialize in particular missions, including behind the enemy lines, have signed a petition in which it has been announced that they will refuse to be present in the military service until the government withdraws from the plan to reform the judicial system.

The “Yedioth Ahronoth” newspaper also quoted the officers who signed the petition and wrote, ‘We believe that here we are facing a big gap that is penetrating the ranks of the reserve units.’

In addition, 37 reserve pilots of the 69th fighter squadron of the Zionist regime’s air force, who lead airstrikes on Syria and other operations in the region, announced that they would not attend the exercise in protest to Netanyahu’s judicial review.

In the past month, the number of reserve forces has decreased, so the army is on the verge of “reducing” the scope of special operations. This issue has caused “ Herzi Halevi,” the chief of the staff of the Zionist regime’s army, to express his concern and fear about the “massive refusal to serve in the army” and announce that this phenomenon is increasing towards alarming dimensions.

General Gabi Ashkenazi, the former chief of the general staff of the army, also warned at the annual conference of the “Institute for National Security Studies” about the dangerous consequences of the phenomenon of refusing to perform reserve service and emphasized, ‘This is a great danger for the Israeli military because the real size of the authority of the reserve force in the army is much more than what an ordinary citizen imagines, the reserve force affects all units and is an essential part of the strength of the Israeli army, and is considered as the strength of the army to deal with foreign threats.’

Amos Yadlin, a retired general and former military intelligence chief, also noted that ‘when the government creates an unprecedented crisis of confidence in the reserve army, those who think this crisis will not spread to the regular army are wrong!’

Meanwhile, in response to the events in the army and the widespread calls for not attending military service, Benjamin Netanyahu said, ‘I am worried about the army. There should not be disobedience in the military because this will destroy us.

After meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in London, Netanyahu also warned that ‘surrendering to the army refusal is a terrible danger to the (so-called) state of Israel. The state cannot exist without the Israeli army, there will not be a nation, and it’s straightforward!’

Considering that the Zionist regime is an entirely military society and regime, and even some prominent Western researchers and thinkers, including Harold Lasswell, the distinguished American scientist, and theorist, call the Israeli regime a “garrison state” that the army plays an essential role in its life and existence, therefore it is natural that any challenge or crisis within the military organization of the regime can have significant “strategic consequences” in its “existential” dimensions.

The role of the army and armed forces in the Zionist regime is much more significant and more “strategic” than its similar role in other countries. The position and nature of the threats and expectations of the Zionist leaders from the army have caused the military organization of the Zionist regime to be considered very important and decisive in making “strategic decisions.”

The army’s position in the Zionist regime, which according to some views, is even beyond the cabinet, has caused all the “grand strategies” of this regime to have a military nature during the past 75 years. This feature alone is enough to understand the depth of the disaster that is happening with the internal crisis of the army in the Zionist regime.

The crisis within the army, at a time when the Zionist regime is in a state of “confrontation and conflict” with Palestinian resistance groups in the West Bank and other regions, is an issue that can cause “serious damage” to its performance and efficiency in the field and operational areas and have a noticeable effect on its readiness in field battles and “balance of power” in the occupied territories.

In the short term, the crisis of refusal and rebellion of the reserve forces in the army causes the “weakening of the active army” in the internal and external conflict areas. As a result, it strengthens the increasing achievements of the resistance groups. That is why former and current officials of the Zionist army constantly warn that ‘the internal crisis is a moment to harm Israel.’

Netanyahu’s War Cabinet’s Efforts to Divert Public Opinion from The Gaza War

Strategic Council Online – Opinion: The Zionist regime is trying to “psychologically exploit” the recent events in the region to divert the world public opinion from the crimes this regime is committing in Gaza. Examining the atmosphere prevailing in the political and media circles of the Zionist regime and the centers aligned with it at the regional and international level shows that this regime seeks to “highlight and dominate” the recent tensions with the Islamic Republic of Iran so that it could reduce the heavy pressure that is felt in the domestic, regional, and international public opinion and even European governments against the Gaza war.
