Morgan Ortagus, the US State Department Spokesperson, reacted last Tuesday in her tweeter to the remarks by the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the 75^th General Assembly of the United Nations. She pointed out Rouhani’s reference to the termination of the era of dominance and hegemony, tweeting “If the era of dominance and hegemony that Rouhani speaks of is over, why doesn’t Iran get its troops and proxies out of Iraq, and stop trying to dominate Lebanon through Hezbollah?.” 

The US State Department spokeswoman is raising such allegations as against the Iranian statement that its presence in Iraq and Syria in the capacity of military advisers aims to combat terrorism upon the request of their governments and their coordination.

It should be noted that such remarks on the concept of hegemony and its examples by political experts are not only inappropriate and incompatible with academic principles, but also are suggestive of the presence of people in the US State Department who distort the image of America before the world by taking such stances, and demonstrate the ineffectiveness of the ill-informed team of Mike Pompeo in the State Department. Of course, such remarks hegemony and its attribution to Iran are of no surprise to experts and people who are familiar with the shameless and inept stances of Pompeo as the Foreign Secretary and of his associates in the State Department. In fact, positions and remarks of US State Department authorities in recent years have been full of shame and awkwardness and expose neglect, bewilderment and haste all emanating from the astonishing absurdity of American officials. Today, the global public opinion can properly distinguish between hegemony as sought by Washington and regional policies pursuing goals within the framework of national interests and political, military, economic and cultural cooperation. Today, the people of the world differentiate between powers that constantly claim the world’s leadership and superiority and countries that try to establish regional cooperation on the basis of legal treaties.     

From this perspective, when the Iranian president heralds the end of the era of dominance and hegemony of superpowers, he means the termination of an era marked by the relationship between the bully and the bullied as well as hegemony seeking and domineering of superpowers through the leverage of military might and propaganda. This is the same era described by the president of Iran as having been terminated and the big powers have no chance and opportunity for enforcing their domineering and imperialistic policies.These are the same conditions for the realization of which in various sectors the Islamic Republic of Iran has made a lot of efforts since the victory of the Islamic Revolution and has based its foreign policy on the rejection of hegemony and dominance; therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran has tried to establish regional links to challenge imperialistic and domineering policies and put an end to the hegemony of the US and other imperial powers in West Asia. In this respect, Iran has set up legitimate relations with the countries of the region, demonstrating appropriately the policy of collective security or defense while making it impossible, through changing political and military balance, to return to the conditions in the past when the West had full dominance in the West Asia region. It is normal that US officials, who are witnessing the rapid collapse of their hegemony in West Asia and other parts of the world, are upset with such a legitimate and authoritative policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the region and consider the end of the era of their bullying hegemony in the region as the result of the regional policies of  Iran. This is while the Islamic establishment of Iran has played a very sensitive and key role in defeating terrorism perpetrated by Western-bred terrorist groups such as Daesh and other Takfiri terrorist groups, and has demonstrated great abilities to eliminate the last hopes of the West in reinforcing savage Western hegemony under the excuse of the fight against terrorism.

Additionally, the Islamic Republic of Iran, while presenting a democratic pattern and challenging reactionary and dictator regimes–that form the basis for the military presence of the US in the region– dealt a serious blow to the regional hegemony of Washington in Asia. As confessed by the US president, America is suffering high costs for helping allies maintain their dictatorial regimes.
