He said that “South Africa, which had experienced the crimes of white Europeans against the indigenous blacks of that country during the apartheid regime, understands well the crimes of the Zionist apartheid regime against the Palestinian people, which is a clear example of genocide. For this reason, it has filled the case of Genocide against the Israeli regime in the International Court of Justice in the Hague, so that, based on the International Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, to decide about the actions of this regime against the Palestinians in Gaza. Now it is the duty of all countries, especially Islamic countries, to support this responsible action of South Africa in defense of the Palestinian people, just as the Islamic Republic of Iran supported it yesterday,” said Dr. Kharrazi.
In response to the question, what do you think the court’s verdict would be? He said: “South Africa has requested, for the time being, a provisional measure to stop the actions of the Israeli regime. The court’s proceeding to consider the evidence and arguments that will be presented by South Africa against Israel regarding the act of genocide and hearing the Israeli regime’s defenses will be a long process that may take several years. Still, if the court would issue a provisional measure stopping the actions of the Israeli regime in Gaza, it will be an achievement against the Zionist regime at this stage.”
Dr. Kharrazi further said: “The Genocide Convention was approved in 1948, after World War II and following the story of genocide against the Jews by the German Nazis, and this is one of the wonders of history that today based on the same convention such a case is filed against the apartheid Zionist regime of Israel at the International Court of Justice, which I hope the result of which would be clear enough to deter the crimes of the child-killing regime of Israel against the defenseless people of Palestine.”
The president of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, in response to the question of what is the guarantee that the court’s order be executed? He said: “Before talking about the next step, we should wait and see what the court’s final decision would be, which certainly has to decide under the political pressure of the US and Europe. Of course, the court’s decision is binding within the framework of the Genocide Convention, but this does not mean that the country against which the verdict has been issued would comply with it, unless the Security Council issues a resolution based on the court’s decision and force the said country to implement the decision. Of course, it is expected that the United States and the Europeans would veto such a resolution at the Security Council.”
