“The first condition for ending the conflict in Yemen is to stop the Western-backed weapons support for the perpetrators of this country”, The president of Strategic Council on Foreign Relations said; emphasizing the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to resolve the crisis.

Strategic Council Online: The president of Strategic Council on Foreign Relations stated that the way to resolve Yemeni crisis would be a dialogue between the regional powers; and United Nations must also play a more serious role in this matter.

“The first condition for ending the conflict in Yemen is to stop the Western-backed weapons support for the perpetrators of this country”, he said; emphasizing the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to resolve the crisis.

The geopolitical analysis meeting of Iran-France Relations was held by the joint initiative of Strategic Council on Foreign Relations and Tarbiat Modarres University on June 26-27, 2018.

Dr. Kamal Kharrazi said at the Geopolitical analysis meeting of Iran-France Relations, Iran and France have characteristics such as trying to preserve culture, which can be a good platform for expanding ties.

Dr. Kharrazi added that the presence of Imam Khomeini in Paris before the victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran has left a good memory in Iranian memories. “Of course, there are many ups and downs in the relations between the two countries, including the history of the aid of France to The regime of Saddam Hussein or the acceptance of anti-Iranian terrorists in the territory of France and their activities in that country are not compatible with any international rule”, he added.

“Common interests in the Middle East are other ways to improve bilateral relations between Iran and France”, the president of Strategic Council on Foreign Relations said.

The need for a new attitude based on recent realities of the region

Emphasizing that Iran and France should exploiting common areas for peace and stability in regional issues in the region, he said: “Naturally, the situation in the region today varies from years ago and requires a new attitude to the recent realities of the region.

Kharrazi continued, “Changes in the region have several factors, partly due to mistakes that made by some governments. Especially after the Islamic Awakening, some countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and the Emirates, thought they were in a good position to provide their own interests in the region without regard for the interests of others.

The president of the Strategic Council added: “The Syrian case was one of their strategic mistakes, and believed that they could control the fate of Syria by supporting armed groups and sending weapons and money for them. They sent billions of money and weapons to this country, and the result was that the terrorists acted in the most brutal manner against the people. You also saw the effects of this mistake in France and how terrorist groups could threaten Europe’s security.

European strategic mistake

Dr. Kharrazi said the European strategic mistake is support and silent about this event. He added, although formed an anti-daesh coalition, but that did not succeed, as ISIS’s founders were also part of it. How can Saudi Arabia, as the main advocate of the Takfiris, be a coalition member who wants to fight against them?

Dr. Kharrazi continued: “If the Iranian advisors in Syria and Iraq was not invited by those countries, today we were faced with ISIL, which possessed the land with the capture of Iraq and Syria, and could be the factor of disorder and insecurity in the region and Europe as the neighbor of this region.

The president of the Strategic Council said: “ISIL has failed today, but this does not mean its destruction. This group is present in the region and is emerging in North Africa and Afghanistan, so there needs to be a stronger partnership between those who are concerned about terrorism. It is unfortunate that, despite the fact that the Islamic Republic of Iran has invested and played a major role in defeating ISIS, it is suggested that Iran is causing instability in the region.

Dr. Kharrazi said that it is important to see what Iran and France can do now: “To develop security in the region and solve the problems of the region, we must act with the knowledge that the realities of today are different from the past.”

Yemen crisis; one of the areas of Iran – France cooperation

The president of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations said, one of the areas of Iran and France cooperation is Yemen’s crisis. He added “What’s happening in Yemen is a disaster because the killing of innocent people happens without any defense.” The support of the West, especially the United States, from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates has opened their hands to crime.

Dr. Kharrazi continued: The natural request of Yemen’s Ansarullah is having a share in the government of the country, but against this natural demand, it faces the invasion of the country.

Referring to the news of the presence of French forces in attack on the port of Al-Hadidah on the Yemeni coast, he said: Although the Foreign Ministry of France denied this issue, according to the release of its news in the Figaro newspaper and the broadcast of films on this subject, It is unfortunate and we hope it is not right; but in any case, it is not right for Europeans to remain silent against the invasion of Yemen, and even to support the invaders.

The need to review of the Middle Eastern strategies of European governments

Emphasizing the need to resolve the Yemen crisis, the president of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations said: this endless war that has been going on for more than three years should end. The Yemeni issue is urgent and the UN should play its more serious role in stopping this ill-fated war and provide a Yemeni-Yemen-based compromise, and the countries in the region will also contribute to this process.

Dr. Kharazi continued: “In general, solution to the Middle East problems is negotiating between the regional powers, and this is the fact that Iran, Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia are the four powerful and influential countries in the region. Eventually, these countries should come together and negotiate how to resolve the issues of the region and prevent the rise of the crisis and terrorism.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is also ready to do its utmost to restore security and peace in the region,” he expressed hope to re-examine the strategies of European governments, including France in the region.

The president of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations said: “First of all, it is necessary to refrain from providing support for the arms of those who chopped the region. European countries are continuing to ship weapons to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and the same weapons are used in Yemen.
