The Zionist Regime Has to Accept a Ceasefire in the Gaza War

Strategic Council Online – Interview: An expert on West Asian issues said: The recent resolution proposed by the United States to establish a ceasefire in Gaza and release prisoners was approved with 14 positive votes, one abstention (Russia), and no negative votes at the UN Security Council meeting. None of the parties to the Gaza war have yet agreed to this resolution.

In an interview with the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations website, Jafar Qanadbashi said about the American resolution: “This resolution only dealt with the generalities and did not specify many details. This is despite the fact that the ceasefire has various conditions. Still, this resolution does not mention the conditions of the parties for a ceasefire and only emphasizes the necessity of establishing a ceasefire.

He added: “Regarding the ceasefire agreement, instead of addressing both sides, he only addressed Hamas and asked it to end the war. This issue caused the Russian delegate to abstain. In fact, it was expected that in this resolution, the US would also ask the Israeli regime to end the war in Gaza.

Regarding whether the approach of the United States of America regarding the war in Gaza has changed, Qanadbashi said: “Most importantly, this is a new approach the Americans showed by presenting this proposed resolution; an approach that is entirely different from their past approaches and positions regarding the ceasefire. The American diplomatic system has repeatedly rejected any ceasefire in Gaza during the past eight months but also vetoed numerous resolutions of other countries regarding the necessity of establishing a ceasefire. This means that the United States has concluded that the continuation of the war in Gaza will cause irreparable losses to the Zionist regime and the United States.

Pointing out that the recent developments show some differences between the positions of the Americans and the stances of Netanyahu himself, this expert emphasized: “This issue has other clear signs, namely the resignation of Benny Gantz as a force related to the United States in the Israeli regime’s war cabinet and expressing his disappointment in winning over Hamas. This issue was fully revealed during the recent visit of the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to Occupied Palestine. He came to the region with the message of establishing a ceasefire as soon as possible, and all the negotiations he had with the authorities of the Zionist regime and other parties in the region, such as the authorities of Qatar and Egypt was about establishing a ceasefire.”

He continued: “However, it seems that Netanyahu and his extremist ministers in the Zionist regime’s cabinet not only practically opposed such a request but also convinced Blinken and other American officials about the disadvantages of an immediate ceasefire. »

Regarding Tel Aviv’s view of the ceasefire resolution and its conditions, Qanadbashi said: “All Israel’s efforts in these developments have always been to be able to advance the state of affairs in a way that does not mean the defeat of the Israeli regime and the victory of Hamas. Because they believe that any stoppage of the war in these conditions will mean the defeat of the Israeli regime and the victory of Hamas, which will be extended to the Resistance Axis countries. American officials are also very worried about this victory among the Resistance Front.

The expert on Middle East issues believes that one of the main reasons for presenting this resolution at the current time was that as we approach the US presidential election, Joe Biden wants to reduce his government’s positions in favor of the Zionist regime.

And, to some extent, lessen the internal protests and dissatisfaction outbreak.

On Hamas’s approach, he also said: “In this situation, considering the change in the conditions of the Israeli regime for a ceasefire, Hamas tried not to get involved in the story of the Zionists’ new concessions and again announced its same fixed positions regarding the ceasefire.” Hamas officials have emphasized in their statements that the Israelis try to prevent Hamas’s victory and Tel Aviv’s defeat every time by changing the terms of the ceasefire and demanding new concessions.

According to Qanadbashi, this is despite the fact that Hamas wants to stop the war and calls for a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of Zionist troops from Gaza, and the reopening of the borders to provide aid to the people and the injured in Gaza. However, the Israelis are trying to prevent these conditions from being realized or to direct the process of development toward a temporary ceasefire.

Regarding the future scenario of this ceasefire resolution, the expert said: “The Israelis have shown in the past in the wars in Lebanon and Gaza that they always insist on their irrational way, but in the end, they will be forced to call the ceasefire due to the trend of developments in the region and the world.

At present, the global situation, the continuation of the judicial process at the Hague Court, the economic problems in Israel, and the dissatisfaction of the people do not portray the prospect of the Israeli regime becoming stronger, and they will eventually have to accept a ceasefire.”
