Biden’s failure in West Asia trip

Strategic Council Online - Interview: An expert on West Asia affairs believes: Although Biden tried to highlight Iranophobia during his recent tour of West Asia, in fact, an important part of Biden’s objective was to reduce concerns about influence of China and Russia in the region.

In an interview with the website of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, Hossein Akbari, referring to Biden’s anti-Iran positions and promises during his trip to West Asia, clarified: In his election slogans in opposition to Trump, Biden took positions on various issues in the region, including implementation of the two-state plan to solve the Palestinian issue, opposition to the war in Yemen and selling weapons to Saudi Arabia and concluding the case of Jamal Khashoggi’s murder.
Akbari, who was the former Iranian diplomat in Libya, continued: However, so far, Biden has not been able to live up to any of his election slogans regarding his policies towards West Asia and Iran, and despite criticisms, he has continued to tread on the same path as Trump. Before this trip, many possibilities were raised about the objectives of the trip, a significant part of which was a kind of psychological war against Iran.
US not for a coalition between Arab states
Referring to the efforts to create a kind of coalition against Iran with the presence of Arab countries and the Zionist regime, he added: Although it seemed that the US was trying to create a kind of coalition, it became clear during this trip that the US will not allow Arab countries to form a coalition, even against Iran. This is because they are worried that the coalition will gain so much power that its control will become out of the hands of the United States and create a threat against the Zionist regime.
The expert on West Asia affairs, saying that the US strategy is to be able to maintain the balance of military forces in favor of the Zionist regime in the region, and with the type of weapons it gives to the region and the relationship it establishes with the countries, it advances this objective, noted: When the Libyan crisis reached its peak, it was discussed in the Arab League that a united army should be created from among the Arab countries, which could establish security by being established among the conflicting parties. This issue was almost approved in the Arab League, but the United States immediately intervened in this issue and prevented the creation of a united Arab force.
Akbari reminded that previous coalitions formed with the participation of Arab countries, including the one against Yemen, have failed and continued: On the morning of the meeting in Jeddah, Egypt and Jordan announced unprecedented positions and said that they do not want to form a coalition against a country in the region. Even the positions of the Saudis were not to Biden’s liking. Oman, Kuwait and Qatar and the prime minister of Iraq also had positions that indicated that there will be no coalition against Iran.
He pointed to the agreement between Baghdad and the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf region for the transfer of electricity to Iraq, with an aim of bypassing Iran from the route of supplying electricity to Iraq, which was signed during Biden’s trip to West Asia, and said: Iraq has already given the US 14 billion dollars to solve their electricity problem, but the US has not taken any action so far. Several years have passed since the contract Iraq signed with General Electric to increase energy production and develop and improve the electricity distribution network, and Iraq is still facing the same problem. During those years, if Saudi Arabia could solve this problem, it would not wait for Biden’s visit.
A trip without achievement
The expert on West Asia affairs, saying that in the arrangement of the structure of Biden’s administration, the Zionists have positions and responsibilities far more than in any era and this is Biden’s great advantage to the Zionists, added: Biden’s trip to the region did not achieve any results, and even the Zionist media referred to the issue.
Akbari noted: It is very unfortunate that such news be published and nine Arab countries sit together and want to form a coalition against Iran and in favor of the Zionist regime. In their history, all those countries used to gather together one day to take action against the Zionist regime, but today they are so weakened within themselves that they gather to support that regime. This is an unfortunate event in the Islamic world. Certainly, the people of those countries are not with their politicians.
Alliance of regional countries with China, Russia, US red line
He pointed to the agreements made during the visit of the presidents of Turkey and Russia to Iran, especially in the field of energy, and considered it a clear message regarding the failure of efforts to limit Iran, and said: Although Biden tried to highlight Iranophobia during this trip, in fact, an important part of Biden’s objective was to reduce concerns about the influence of China and Russia in the region. The US red line is that its allies not unite with China and Russia.
The expert on West Asia issues explained: When Adel Al-Mahdi signed a 50 billion contract with China, riots broke out in Iraq that forced him to resign, or Imran Khan, when he went to Russia and China, immediately removed him with a soft coup. The Saudis are also aware of this issue, and since they saw a lot of unkindness from the US during this time, bin Salman signed an agreement with China to not only sell oil to them, but also receive Chinese yuan in exchange. The US felt that Saudi Arabia has crossed all its red lines.
Akbari added: The US desperately needs Saudi Arabia; because if one day this energy production capacity in the region goes out of their control, they will face a serious crisis. On the other hand, bin Salman also needs the US; because if the US does not support him, he may not be able to come to power. Therefore, according to those special relations, the US tried to strengthen those ties again by recalling the support for its allies.
