Strategic Council Online—Interview: An expert of West Asia affairs says the issue of Beitul-Moqaddas as capital is not only significant for Muslims and the Islamic world but also for some of the leaders and officials of Europe.

Seyyed Reza Sadrolhosseini told the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations that the recognition of Beitul-Moqaddas as the capital of the Zionist regime by Kosovo would not have remarkable impacts or immense interests for it.

Referring to the announcement of relocation of the Embassy of Kosovo in the Zionist regime from Tel Aviv to Beitul-Moqaddas, he said a look at the trend of normalization of relations between the Zionist regime and some Muslim countries indicate that this regime is resorting to any means to give legitimacy to its political objectives especially when it comes to small countries with the use of begging, intimidation or threat.

“The Zionist regime is advancing its goals through begging, intimidation and threat. Such measures indicate that the US policies have failed in giving legitimacy to this regime. The Zionist regime is trying to enter into negotiations with various countries in all the world’s continents and establish diplomatic links with them. Wherever appropriate and possible, the Zionist regime opens an embassy and tries to introduce Beitul-Moqaddas, an occupied city, as its capital in order to solicit international recognition and support.”

He said even Europe or other non-European countries did not seek such measures, adding that many European and Asian countries especially Muslim states have serious reservations about recognizing Beitul-Moqaddas as the capital of the Zionist regime and strengthen relations with it.

“The Zionist regime is trying to encourage small countries that are facing problems and are in need of help to recognize Beitul-Moqaddas as the capital of the Zionist regime and expedite this issue.”

Sadrolhosseini referred to the efforts by the United States to recognize Beitul-Moqaddas as the capital of the Zionist regime and said some minor governments such as Kosovo that is not a Muslim state but the majority of its population are Muslim have had no choice under the pressure of the US government and the Zionist regime but to recognize Beitul-Moqaddas as the capital of the Zionist regime. Countries especially located in West Asia and Africa are not interested in recognizing Beitul-Moqaddas as the capital of the Zionist regime.

He said such measures cannot provide remarkable contribution to the legitimization of the Zionist regime as it is facing political and social problems in the occupied territories.

He added that the main problem of the Zionist regime in the present time is its domestic problems. The residents of the occupied territories would not accept a government that is unstable and maintained. Therefore, as the Zionist regime faces the problem of illegitimacy and disapproval among the people, it is trying to increase its activities in the foreign policy so that a balance is created between the foreign and domestic politics.

This expert of West Asia affairs said the identity roots of the Zionist regime are in decay as it is facing grave differences.

“The poor approval rating of the Zionist regime among the population which does not feel the regime belongs to the occupied territories cannot be compensated by such measures as the recognition of Beitul-Moqaddas as the capital of the Zionist regime by some countries or normalization of its relations with some Muslim states.”

Referring to the protests and Muslim reactions in the world to measures by their governments to recognize the Zionist regime and Beitul-Moqaddas as its capital, he said the majority of the population in Kosovo are Muslim but it appears that the type of their government like some other countries with Muslim majority does not allow the emergence of such demands by Muslims against the Zionist regime.

He emphasized that the issue of recognition of Beitul-Moqaddas as the capital of the Zionist regime is not acceptable for Muslims and the Islamic world as well as the officials and leaders of some European countries.

This analyst of West Asia affairs said the policies of Democrats in the United States concerning the Zionist regime may be different from the Trump’s administration.

“It seems that with Joe Biden in the White House, the issue of the recognition of Beitul-Moqaddas as  the capital of the Zionist regime by Muslim states would face obstacles and delays. As the Biden administration believe in the two state solution, such measures by Kosovo would not be beneficial and would only make it notorious.”

He said Muslims living in Islamic European states such as Kosovo are expected to show their serious protest at such illegal and illegitimate measures in various forms in the form of people’s institutions and non-governmental groups and holding meetings and webinars.
