Dr Kharrazi in a meeting with some officials and researchers in Paris, organized by Montaigne Institute, explained the reasons for Tehran’s recent decision to suspend some of its JCPOA commitments and answered questions posed by the audience.
He criticized Europe’s procrastination in fulfilling its JCPOA commitments and noted: “Tehran’s decision is based on the rights JCPOA has provided to Iran, and Europe can demonstrate its resolve to preserve Iran’s Nuclear Agreement by fulfilling its obligations, including quick implementation of the INSTEX.”
The SCFR President added: “Trump has shown that he not only does not respect the signatures of the former US administration but is also violating the Security Council Resolution 2231 and other US international obligations.”
Dr Kharrazi, in response to a question about Iranian ballistic missiles, said Iran’s missile capability is defensive and a strategic weapon in deterrence against the regional threats and naturally there is no room for negotiation on them, as France is not ready to negotiate on its strategic weapon with anyone.
Dr Kharrazi added that the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 does not prohibit the production and testing of missiles not designed to carry nuclear warheads.
Regarding Europe’s support for Iran Nuclear Agreement, he said: “Europe’s political stances vis-à-vis the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) would be worthwhile when they produce practical results.”
The SCFR chief responding to a question about Trump’s readiness to negotiate with Iran emphasized: “Trump’s record in pulling out of the JCPOA and imposing cruel sanctions against the Iranian nation leaves no room for trust and negotiation. Tramp’s calls for talks are just a propaganda ploy and not worthwhile.
