Dr Kamal Kharrazi speaking at a meeting on Tuesday with a delegation from French think tank Montaigne noted: “Europe’s approach towards the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has doubled the sensitivities and caused Iranian public opinion’s distrust in Europe.”
He stressed Europe’s quick action in implementing the Instrument in Support of Exchanges (INSTEX) could change the current negative view in favour of Europe.
The SCFR president also commented on the Syrian issue, which was another topic of discussions in the meeting with the French delegation. Kharrazi said: “Despite some differences between Iran, Russia and Turkey, the three countries have common interests in establishing stability and security in Syria, and consultations between the Trio on this issue has been useful and constructive.
Dr Kharrazi, referring to the growing anti-Iran rhetoric by the Zionist regime’s Prime Minister, stated: “Netanyahu needs power showoff for the election, but he knows well that any move against Iran’s interests would mean political suicide.”
Emphasizing that all the countries should pursue the goal of creating stability and calm in Syria, he said foreign forces that had been deployed in Syria without coordination with Damascus should leave the Syrian territory as soon as possible.
The SCFR chief said the creation of crisis in Syria was in the interests of the Zionist regime. Also, in response to a question about the reason for Syrian President Bashar Assad’s unannounced visit to Iran, he said: “Due to security issues, the trip was conducted without prior notice.”
Dr Kharrazi pointing out that the Syrian people have been severely hurt by terrorism, said the Syrian people support Assad to calm down and fight against terrorism.
He argued that the analysis of European governments about the developments in Syria and the Syrian people’s view is not realistic.
Dr Kharrazi also pointed to the developments and popular protests in Europe, saying that US interests have been defined in line with the weakening of Europe and America’s support for some of the tensions and protests in the European countries is in the direction of weakening Europe.
