Importance and Necessity of Confronting the West’s Targeted Portrayal of Iran’s Alleged Sale of Ballistic Missiles to Russia

Strategic Council Online, Interview: An expert on international issues said: The type of portrayal of the West and the United States regarding the issue of Iran's alleged sale and delivery of ballistic missiles to Russia is dangerous and should be prevented with active diplomacy.

Mahmoud Shouri, in an interview with the website of the Strategic Council Relations about the claims made by Europe and the United States that Iran has sold and sent ballistic missiles to Russia, said that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the West has tried to link Iran to Russia’s war in Ukraine and has advanced its goal in various ways, including the claim of selling and sending drones and ballistic missiles to Russia.

He continued: This issue has consequences for Iran, and its implications will continue in the future. In other words, this portrayal will become a problem for Iran, and a solution must be found for it. That they can make a reality out of something that doesn’t exist or make a so-called lie a reality and use it as a tool against Iran is a fact on the table today.

This expert on international issues stated: Iran has repeatedly emphasized that it does not support and help any of the parties to the dispute in the Ukraine issue, just as in the issue of drones, Hossein Amirabdollahian, the former martyred foreign minister, repeatedly emphasized that Iran will use a limited number of drones. It sold to Russia before the Ukrainian war, and this issue has nothing to do with the Ukrainian war. But what is important today is that the image of the West against Iran should not be allowed to be formed under the pretext of ballistic missiles.

Shouri continued: When the issue of drones was raised, European and American countries tried to put Iran’s name alongside Russia against Ukraine in the eyes of public opinion and international forums to create a kind of alliance between Russia and Iran against Ukraine and the West, which was a set of political goals behind this issue.

Referring to the formation of the 14th government in Iran and the creation of a new atmosphere in the region and the world, and that some are trying to influence this atmosphere, he said while the head of the new government is on the verge of his first appearance at the United Nations and meeting with the officials of different countries on the margin. Therefore, it is natural that the directions will go in the direction of placing Iran next to Russia in the Ukraine issue and making it appear as an accused to create a negative atmosphere against Iran at the level of world public opinion.

This international affairs expert stated: They are trying to impose new sanctions against Iran under this pretext, and they must consider extending and maintaining the past sanctions, especially the sanctions imposed against Iran by the resolutions of the UN Security Council in the last decade or two.

Emphasizing that the role and efforts of the Israeli regime with the support and cooperation of the United States should not be neglected in this space-building, Shouri said: The Israeli regime must also play a role in this issue because they are trying to maintain the atmosphere of Iran-phobia in the world under various pretexts. Do not allow Iran to leave the security conditions and international restrictions. They are trying to keep international sanctions against Iran as a sword over Iran’s head.

He stated that Iran needs continuous diplomatic efforts to neutralize these actions. Therefore, it is necessary for the diplomatic apparatus, in its high-level contacts and consultations with its European and Western counterparts, while protesting their biased portrayals and describing Iran’s positions on the war in Ukraine, to request them to provide documents and evidence in this field for review and verification.

Strategic Council Online – Opinion: A proxy war is when two countries fight each other indirectly by supporting the warring parties.
