Terrorist Attack in Syria; Scheme to Open a New Front Against the Resistance Axis

2024/12/06 | interview, political, top news

Strategic Council Online – Interview: An expert on regional issues considered the terrorist attack on the city of Idlib at the beginning of the winter season a “surprise” move and said: “Basically, an attack at this time of the year is out of the question because fighters usually do not choose the cold and winter seasons for military operations. There is no other reason why and how they took military action and advanced towards the city of Idlib and then Aleppo in a surprising way except that it is related to regional issues and the Israeli regime’s war in Lebanon and Gaza.”

In an interview with the Strategic Council for Foreign Relations website, Hossein Ruyvaran stated: “The United States and the Israeli regime are trying to open another front against the Resistance Axis in the region by closing one front and opening another.”

Referring to the agreement that was reached between the Syrian government and Takfiri forces in this country in 2020 when a ceasefire was declared, he added: “We should not have witnessed such behavior and action.” It is clear that the Takfiri side has violated the agreement and has tried to deal blows on the Syrian government and its supporters with an unexpected e move, while the attention of the region is focused on the ceasefire between the Israeli regime and Lebanon.

Response of the Syrian government and its allies

Regarding the approach of the Syrian government and army, as well as Russia and Iran, to this issue, the expert on regional issues clarified: The actions of the Takfiri terrorist groups may continue for several days, but they will be faced with a strong and widespread counterattack and response from the Syrian government and army. These groups have violated the 2020 agreement, and for this reason, the Syrian army will give them a decisive response, and these groups will soon be contained.

He added: Mr. Bashar al-Assad has ordered his brother, Mr. Maher al-Assad, to carry out counterattack operations against the terrorists quickly. We have witnessed that during these days, the bombing of areas occupied by Takfiri terrorists has been carried out extensively.

Terrorists’ weapons sources

Regarding the military equipment and facilities at the disposal of the terrorists in the recent attack, Ruyvaran stated: The armed individuals have extensive military and drone capabilities. Where did they get this equipment from? It is clear that they could not purchase this amount of equipment. Who else could have provided this support except perhaps Turkey or, the United States and the Israeli regime? Turkey had promised not to provide military equipment to these groups within the framework of an agreement made in the past. Still, it seems it has broken its promise and provided them with many facilities, including drones.

In response to the question of whether the recent attack has the potential to change regional equations and to what extent the terrorists can count on it, Ruyvaran stated: The situation is not out of control as the mass media portrays it, and everything will return to its previous state in a short time. The recent attacks by Takfiri terrorists are being exaggerated in cyberspace.

Regarding the accusations against Turkey for supporting the recent attacks in Syria, Ruyvaran stated that Turkey is certainly trying to say that these people did this on their own. However, this issue has impacted the political equations of the region and will be reflected. If these groups are not supplied with military and logistical equipment, they can never take such actions.
