In an interview with the website of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, Hossein Ruyvaran, referring to the evident differences in the positions of Iran and Saudi Arabia on the issue of Palestine and the developments of the last year, stated: Iran believes that the Israeli regime does not understand any language except the language of force and that the solution to the Palestinian issue is the continued resistance and holding a referendum among all Palestinians around the world.
However, Saudi Arabia has proposed a coalition to support the two-state solution and has invited diplomats, heads of state, senior government officials, and the media to Riyadh to emphasize that the two-state plan can achieve a diplomatic solution to the Palestinian crisis. Of course, from this perspective, Riyadh is trying to create a role for itself.
The regional issues expert said: Saudi Arabia is putting forward the idea of an initiative, which has been raised since 1967 in Resolution 242. This resolution asks the Israeli regime to withdraw from the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem so that the Palestinian state can be formed. The 50 resolutions issued after that also refer to Resolutions 242 and 338 in some way and underline attention to the solution; nevertheless, the Israeli regime is the main obstacle to the formation and realization of the two-state plan.
Referring to the Israeli regime’s tough stance on the formation of a two-state solution from the beginning, the expert on regional issues noted: The Knesset (Israeli parliament) recently passed a bill that no Palestinian government will be formed in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and the of this regime is obliged to prevent a problem. On the other hand, the Israeli regime does not tolerate the formation of a Palestinian state.
Ruyvaran said: By proposing such ideas, Saudi Arabia is trying to maintain its positions and status as an important Arab state in the region and the world and to portray itself in public as a peace-loving and pro-diplomacy government that opposes killing and genocide.
Ruyvaran added: It is expected that Iran, too, will try to create a kind of global consensus against the genocide in Gaza through diplomatic activity and holding an international conference.
