Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini, a former spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and former ambassador of Iran to Italy in an interview with the website of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, explored the reasons and objectives of the United States in holding the conference in Poland.
The following is the full text of the interview:
Q: What are Washington’s primary goals in holding the Warsaw Conference?
It seems that the United States is pursuing several goals behind holding the conference in a delusional way but concurrently. One goal relates to their efforts to come out of the political-international isolation by focusing on Iranophobia and by leveling unfounded and unwarranted allegations against Tehran. In this regard, the United States tried to hold the conference by exerting pressure on and bribing some countries in various parts of the world.
Among other goals of the United States is to exert maximum pressure on the Iranian people and continue efforts to confront the people and the establishment. The meeting has been called following the US defeats in its previous initiatives against Iran and the failure to create “unrest and chaos across the country” and “force the Islamic Republic to resume negotiations with Washington.”
On the other hand, reinforcement and boosting the morale of US troops and Washington’s humiliated regional allies in the aftermath of repeated defeats of their coalition in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Palestine are among other goals of the United States in holding the Warsaw confab.
Q: How is the existing lineup about the Polish conference and why are we suddenly noticing a change in Washington’s position on this event?
The United States by relying on an illusionary approach is seeking to create a new front and form a consensus among aligned countries, particularly in West Asia and Europe, with the aim of Iranophobia. The idea of a conference meeting in Poland was conceived with such an approach. As it had been predicted, the scenario was doomed to failure due to the political isolation of the US administration and the growing distrust towards Washington. As a result, the Americans tried to change the goals of the meeting when they noticed that many countries did not welcome the idea of the conference so that more high-ranking representatives would attend the Warsaw confab.
Q: What is expected of the conference and what are Washington’s plan and purpose for holding this conference?
As noted, the United States is pursuing an Iranophobia approach behind holding this conference, but because many countries, including the Europeans, did not welcome the conference, the lineup Washington was expecting at the start of this scenario was completely defeated and yielded no result.
Q: How do you assess Iran’s countermeasures?
The Islamic Republic actively entered the diplomatic scene and carried out a series of measures, contacts, and consultations with various parties, especially the Europeans. This led the Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland as a founder of the conference to pay a visit to Tehran and assure the relevant authorities of our country that the Warsaw conference does not target Iran but will discuss various regional issues.
Another point to note is that similar meetings were held in the past, and some parties, including the United States and the Zionist regime, along with some of their regional allies tried to turn the focus of these meetings on antagonism with the interests of the Iranian nation, but the more they tried the less they gained. Therefore, the launch of such failed scenarios reflects the confusion and lack of wisdom of the American side and their miscalculations about Iran and the developments in the region.
