Hamid Khoshayand – an expert on regional issues
Since the beginning of the Gaza war, the American government has provided the Zionist regime with more than 130 ships and 200 cargo planes carrying weapons, especially weapons of mass destruction. America has never provided such military support to an ally in such a short period.
The United States has specific regulations and restrictions on selling or sending military aid to foreign countries. For example, the Leahy Act prohibits any transfer of military aid to foreign governments or groups that commit gross human rights violations. However, the Zionist regime is exempt from all the mentioned regulations and laws. Thus, while having unlimited access to all kinds of American military aid and weapons, this regime is not answerable to anyone regarding the quality of their use.
Regarding the “objectives” of the recent US military support to the Zionist regime, it is necessary to pay attention to the following points:
One: Increasing the weapons reserves of the Zionist regime is one of the immediate goals in this field. The war in Gaza has destroyed a significant part of the military equipment of the Zionist regime and has placed this regime in a “severe logistical crisis.” Today, after ten months, in a situation where the Zionist regime is involved on several fronts, it is facing almost empty weapons warehouses.
For example, the losses of advanced Merkava tanks (more than 1500 units) and armored vehicles in this war have been so high that not only their new and advanced generations are out of the category of combat activities and are not even suitable for training, but the criminal Zionist regime has access to the older generations are also in dire straits, having to contend with obsolete armored vehicles that have been decommissioned.
Two: The destruction of a large part of the military capabilities and, as a result, the collapse of deterrence has definitely weakened the position of the Zionist regime in the ceasefire negotiations. By announcing a military aid of 20 billion dollars while restoring the regime’s military strength, the United States is trying to boost the “bargaining power” of the Zionists at the negotiating table and “score” more than the Palestinian resistance. The Zionist regime is basically a “garrison regime” whose survival and political existence depends on “weapons.” So, without abundant and easy access to all kinds of weapons, their nature and existence are questioned. This is the point through which one can understand why the Zionists have unrestricted access to American weapons.
Through the confirmation of the recent sale of 20 billion dollars, which is a very high figure, the United States has a glimpse of the future of the Zionist regime and the revival of its military infrastructure and the filling of its ammunition depots, which in the Gaza war and according to unofficial statistics, almost half of its military capabilities have been destroyed.
Four: The threats of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Lebanon’s Hezbollah, and other elements of the Islamic Resistance Front regarding a harsh and severe response to the Zionist regime have intensified the atmosphere of anxiety and “deep mental confusion” in the Zionist regime’s army and the residents of occupied Palestine.
The fact that the US is approving a 20 billion dollar military sales package in such an environment where the Zionists are suffering from mental convulsions is also with the aim of “strengthening” and “reassuring” this regime.
Five: The support of the Jewish lobby is one of the most effective factors in the victory of the Democratic Party candidate in the upcoming American elections. The Democrats who are currently in power, by confirming and publishing the news of the sale of 20 billion dollars of weapons to the Zionist regime, seek to attract and win the support of the Jewish lobby in the presidential elections.
Six: The growing trend of US military aid to the Zionist regime over the past ten months clearly shows that the US is actually “doing business” with the Gaza war. Approving a $20 billion sale of weapons of war that will prolong the war in Gaza will make it more “profitable” for the US military-industrial complex.
At the same time, the sale of 20 billion military weapons to the Zionist regime has significant “consequences”:
- As long as the US military aid to the Zionist regime continues, the international and regional efforts to stop the war in Gaza will definitely remain fruitless because it is the most significant and most important “factor” in the continuation of the war in Gaza.
The United States has the power to force the Zionist regime to sign a cease-fire agreement in Gaza by refusing to send weapons. But allowing the Zionist regime to have access to billions of dollars in new military weapons is actually neglecting to stop the war and, on the contrary, giving the Zionist regime enough opportunity to continue its crimes in Gaza and intensify “conflicts in the region.”
The least consequence of continuing intra-regional conflicts is the intensification of extra-regional and international interventions and, as a result, the spread of instability, insecurity and terrorism.
- The publication of the news of the sale of American military weapons to the Zionist regime is enough for the regional and international public opinion and the Muslim nations to understand the depth and scope of the comprehensive military support of the US to the criminal regime in the Gaza war.
This issue can significantly impact the growth of anti-American sentiments in the region and the world, and it may lead to the escalation of anti-government and anti-Zionist protests inside the United States.
In any case, the unlimited transfer of military weapons from the United States to the Zionist regime, although it fills the regime’s weapons stockpiles, does nothing to ensure the survival and existence of the regime in the “long term.” Today, in the 76th year of its establishment, the Zionist regime is suffering such a catastrophic situation in Gaza, and it cannot stand on its own feet in front of a small Palestinian group; it shows that without American support, the criminal regime’s “resilience” against groups like Hamas is very short.
