Martyr Soleimani’s Role in Enhancing Deterrence Power of Iran, Islamic Resistance Front

Strategic Council Online - Opinion: Martyr Lieutenant General Haj Qassem Soleimani, in addition to being one of the top military personalities, was also a “strategist” and “master-mind” in the literal sense of the word in the field of strategic issues. Hamid Khoshayand - Expert on regional affairs

Such distinguished qualities made Martyr Soleimani the creator of new and practical perspectives, rules and doctrines for the Islamic Republic of Iran and the region. With his “unique mastery” in the field of military, security, political and diplomatic activities, as well as his abundant intelligence in this field, he challenged many rules of the game and created new opportunities for the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Islamic Resistance Front; opportunities that have not stopped even with his martyrdom.

By taking advantage of the opportunities that he created and cultivating human talents and strengthening the various elements of the Islamic resistance, Martyr Soleimani entered the difficult scenes where the anti-Iranian, anti-Islamic and anti-Islamic Resistance policies of the United States and its regional and international allies and partners were implemented and would lead such policies to failure through negative and positive mechanisms.

The “asymmetric warfare doctrine”, which today is the biggest challenge for the United States in the region and the biggest threat against the criminal Zionist regime, is one of the great achievements that Martyr Soleimani designed and implemented well during his years of activity.

Martyr Soleimani’s “strategic thinking and view” in any situation, especially during the difficult times of the fight against the ISIS international terrorism, which caused spread of insecurity and instability in some countries in the region, were aligned and complementary with his “operational approach”.

By using this thinking and approach, he was able to succeed in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, etc., not only in the field of creating security and repelling threats caused by terrorism and the US policies, and brought security and stability to those countries, but also to institutionalize production method of security and stability in those countries and regions.

Among strategic and important measures of Martyr Soleimani, which resulted from the combination of his strategic and operational thinking and stemmed from his intelligence and genius in the field of tough military, security and political activities, is the “enhancement of the power and deterrence ability” of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its aftermath the Islamic Resistance Front is in the region, which was greatly strengthened during his command in the Quds Force.

It is worth mentioning that in the period after September 11, 2001 and simultaneously with the expansion of American presence in the region, we have witnessed two important events: first, the weakening of the status, power and position of the United States in the region, in the context that during this period more than 7 trillion dollars were spent in the region. Second, facilitating and accelerating formation process of the “new regional order” in which the Islamic Republic of Iran plays a key role.

The deterrence power of the Islamic Republic of Iran is the most important component of the new regional order in West Asia, which Martyr Soleimani played an effective role in creating it and making its application possible. To understand the importance of this important achievement, it is enough to point out that although the United States was able to achieve deterrence capacity against countries like Russia and China by using its extensive military power, this capacity against Iran, the military expenses and budget of which is far less than Russia and China, was not realized.

But the main reason why the United States, in a completely superior military, economic, and security situation, affected by the budgets of hundreds of billions of dollars and the formation of coalitions and continuous software and hardware policies with an anti-Iranian approach, could not achieve a deterrent capacity against Iran, lies in an important point and that is the regional presence and influence of the Islamic Republic; presence and influence which is spiritual and in expanding its depth and scope, no pressure or violation of legal and political rules and regulations has been exerted.

In addition to these, Martyr Soleimani has also played an essential role in creating the “proxy deterrence” power of the country, to such an extent that this high-ranking martyr should be considered as the “father of proxy deterrence” of the Islamic Republic of Iran in West Asia. The importance of such proxy deterrence against the US, the Zionist regime and other destructive regional and international players is undeniable.

The final point is that even though Martyr Soleimani did not directly participate in the creation of “missile power”, which is the most important element and tool of Iran’s growing deterrence in the region and against the United States and the Zionist regime, he played a direct role in laying the groundwork for its direct and indirect exploitation, as a deterrent tool, to deal with regional and trans-regional enemies.

This issue is so important that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution has also mentioned it and emphasized that “this man filled the hands of the Palestinians; he did something that a small area, a small area like the Gaza Strip, stands in front of the Zionist regime with all those claims, it caused them a lot of trouble that they said within 48 hours, gentlemen, let’s call a ceasefire; these were done by Haj Qassem Soleimani. He filled their hands”.
