US Responsibility for Attacking Civilian Vehicle in Afghanistan, Silence Of Intl. Organizations

2021/10/03 | interview, political, top news

Strategic Council Online - Interview: An Afghan researcher and journalist, referring to the silence of the international community on the US crimes and attacks on civilian vehicle in Afghanistan, said: If human rights organizations and international forums break their silence, the US will be pressured for paying compensation to the survivors and for punishing the agents involved.

In an interview with the website of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, Seyed Abbas Hosseini, referring to the US confession on attacking a vehicle near Kabul airport in which 10 civilians, including seven children, were killed said: With people gathering at Kabul airport, the stance the US officials took at the White House and even the US ambassador to Kabul, showed that by managing the attack on Kabul airport they were attempting to reduce overcrowding and create more opportunity for their troops to leave Afghanistan while they attributed the measure to the ISIS.

Saying that the attacks which are carried out in Afghanistan in the name of ISIL are attacks planned by the United States and the name of ISIL is used only to cover them up and escape the responsibility, he added: The day after the suicide bombing at Kabul airport, the US warnings about the ISIS attack were repeated so that people would not rush to Kabul airport again, and the US, in order to perform its scenario, targeted a civilian vehicle carrying drinking water and the crime took place while children rushed to the car to welcome their father.

The analyst of Afghanistan affairs said: How is it possible that an American drone near the airport that had reconnaissance equipment could not detect drinking water! This issue cannot be technically and militarily justified by any argument! Even if there was a threat, there was no need to use a drone in the area surrounded by the US forces. They could neutralize any movement with their military vehicles and through simple operations.

Hosseini stressed that the United States seeks to demonstrate the ISIS as a threat in Afghanistan, adding: Disclosure of the details of that attack showed the US plans in this regard and the nature of the crimes of that country, and made it clear that the United States, in carrying out its own targets, will not show mercy even to its own soldiers.

Silence of intl. organizations regarding US crimes in Afghanistan

Referring to the role of international organizations in pursuing the US crimes in Afghanistan, he added: The United States has committed numerous crimes in Afghanistan, but none of the organizations and countries claiming human rights have objected to or pursued them. In one example, the previous government and the Afghan Human Rights Commission called on the public to file complaints on the Human Rights Commission’s website within a few months, and hundreds of cases of serious war crimes were filed, but with the embargo of the Chief Justice and the Attorney General at the Hague tribunal and his addition to the US blacklist, those efforts practically failed.

The analyst of Afghanistan affairs stressed: Under the current situation, any complaint will face the same fate. Meanwhile, the United States has not acceded to the most important UN human rights conventions and is not a member of the International Criminal Court. For this reason it is very difficult for the court to convince the United States to answer to those crimes. In fact, we do not see any serious efforts by the UN human rights bodies.

Failure of efforts of previous governments to pursue US crimes

Referring to other efforts made by the former Afghan government to pursue those crimes, he said: Unfortunately, the international community, which is very worried about the Taliban’s human rights crimes these days, has not expressed any concern over even one of the widespread crimes committed by NATO and the United States in Afghanistan; while by comparison, those crimes are far more widespread, and over the past 20 years we have witnessed hundreds of major crimes committed by US forces in Afghanistan. In one instance, they destroyed an entire village and wiped it out.

Necessity to punish perpetrators, pay compensation to families of victims

The Afghan researcher and journalist stressed: If human rights organizations do not remain silent today, the United States will have to compensate the survivors of the car bombing near the airport, in addition to punishing the perpetrators; as they have also demanded this compensation.

He added: Those families should be able to bring their grievances to the international forums; as if we have had different examples in this regard; unfortunately, those examples did not reach the desired conclusion with the influence of NATO member states. However, it created a media environment in which the crime will not be forgotten for the years to come.

Hosseini continued: The United States apologizes in order to control of the media space and orders the follow-up, but there is no belief in that the Americans will investigate those crimes and bring the main perpetrators to justice. Of course, the reason is clear, because those attacks were organized and targeted by the American commanders themselves.

He cited the vast dimensions of the US atrocities in Afghanistan in various areas, adding: Recent statements by Americans about a mistake in attacking that vehicle have been mere pretense, and the victims’ families do not have the ability to sue without support and pursue their case in competent courts.

Commenting on the Taliban’s responsibility with regard to this attack and massacre of Afghan people, Hosseini referred to the statements of the group’s spokesman regarding the US responsibility for its crimes in Afghanistan and said: The Taliban has practically no means to pursue this issue in the international forums; unless an inclusive and legitimate government is formed in that country and it seriously pursues those complaints.
