The return of the vicious shadow of Daesh to Iraq; behind the scene

Strategic Council Online—Opinion: Recent attacks by Daesh terrorists on the headquarters of the second brigade of Hashd Shabi forces in al-Taremiyeh north of Baghdad which martyred four Hashd Shabi commanders are suggestive of a new scenario for the return of Daesh to Iraq. Hassan Hanizadeh-Expert of Middle East issues

Al-Taremiyah is an important region in north Baghdad and links several western and northern provinces of Iraq to Baghdad and other Iraqi cities. During the savage attack of Daesh to Al-Taremiyah region, a number of Hashd Shabi commanders and Iraqi civilians were martyred.

Since 2014, Daesh was transferred from Syria to Iraq under the supervision of American forces and financial contribution of some Arab countries of the region. It committed countless crimes in four years after occupying important parts of the Iraqi soil. Since then, Iran provided Iraq’s Armed Forces with all its military and logistic equipment within the Islamic and humanitarian view and finally in 2018, after four years of breathtaking battle in the field, Iran was able to suppress Daesh and liberate occupied territories of Iraq.

Concurrent with this operation, with the religious edict of the Shia cleric in Najaf and the vigilance of Iraq’s political currents, popular forces such as Hashd Shabi, Hezbollah, Asaeb ahl Haq and Al-Nojaba were established to defend the right of the Iraqi nation against the savage attacks of Daesh. However, unfortunately, serious interventions were made since then against the popular forces by the US, the Zionist regime and some retarded Arab regimes who introduced these forces in confrontation with the government of Iraq; this is while Hashd Shabi made most efforts to maintain the physical security of Iraq.

American forces in Iraq played a direct role in strengthening and relocating Daesh from the east of Euphrates to the north and west of Iraq and even provided Daesh terrorists with advanced weapons. The US move to relocate terrorists from the east of Euphrates to Iraq aimed at creating a crisis and unsafe spot near the common borders with Iraq and Syria in order to prevent the formation of a common Syrian-Iraqi front in the joint border areas of the two countries to combat terrorist groups. However, the formation of joint cooperation between Iran, Syria and Iraq to confront terrorist groups and carefully organize popular forces in Iraq and Syria resulted in the failure of the US plan to create chaos in the region and instrumentalize terrorist groups. Now, once again, American forces have encouraged Daesh to conduct terrorist operations against Hashd Shabi to prevent the formation of this historic meeting.

Historic summit of regional countries in Baghdad

The participation of the French President in this historic summit would certainly mean that the European Union, especially France, would try to reduce the role of the US and Britain in West Asia and play a more active role in the region. On the other side, the US and the Zionist regime are still trying to instrumentalize Daesh terrorists to make countries of the axis of resistance insecure because convergence of regional countries would result in the isolation of the Zionist regime. Therefore, during the past recent days, several terrorist attacks were made against the headquarters and facilities of Hash Shabi in Baghdad, Salahuddin and Diyala, aiming at insecuring Iraq and preventing the convening of the summit meeting of the regional countries. However, it seems that given the role of the Iraqi government in resolving regional conflicts and efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and some Arab countries of the region, the US plan to create insecurity in Iraq was doomed because the government of Mustafa al-Kazemi issued statements and vehemently condemned attacks by Daesh terrorists to Hashd Shabi headquarters and facilities and announced that the government would mobilize all its security forces to suppress Daesh terrorists.

In the meantime, Hashd Shabi and other popular forces of Iraq such as Hezbollah, Al-Nojaba and Asaeb ahl Haq, on the verge of Baghdad summit, formed a joint operation room and declared preparedness to maintain Iraq’s security during the summit. Therefore, it is totally clear that there was a pre-planned American-Zionist scenario behind the sudden and chain attacks of Daesh against popular forces aimed at preventing the formation of the summit meeting of eight regional countries.

Solution to Get Out of FATF Blacklist and Get Rid of Its Heavy Costs?

Strategic Council Online – Opinion: The Financial Action Task Force, FATF, announced on Friday, February 23, that the name of the Islamic Republic of Iran remains on the “blacklist” of this international organization. A decision that was not unexpected for the authorities of our country. According to the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, one day before the release of the FATF statement, due to the current sanctions, Iran is looking for its own FATF, as it uses other tools instead of SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications). On this basis, it seems that while the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon were removed from the “Grey List” of FATF in the previous reviews in June 2024, the Islamic Republic of Iran is not trying to be exempted from the blacklist. But what kind of organization is FATF, and why are some in Iran against joining it? And what is the way out of this situation?
